PIIGS - Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain
Due to the economic recession which started in 2008, several members of the European Union became historically known as PIIGS. These states include Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain and if combined together, they form the acronym PIIGS.
